Nursery

Local, local, local, we take much pride in the fact that we grow and sell local products, we also hire locally. It is great for us since we have 18 growing greenhouses located at the garden centre. We grow most of our own annuals, garden mums, pansies and violas, poinsettias, hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs, primulas and assorted perennials that differ from year to year.

During our peak season our nursery staff can reach up to 15 planters and 15 nursery employees with many tasks working very hard at providing top quality products for our retail store. The nursery employees other than the planters are responsible for filling pots, driving the forklift and tractors. We have a fantastic back operations manager who over sees all planting and growing aspects of the crops. We have wholesale truck drivers and an amazing wholesale manager who attends to all orders for other local businesses that sell our products. At the nursery there is always something happening. The quiet moments are short lived and there is always a crop being planted or grown for the up and coming seasons. For instance our poinsettia crop is planted at the end of July to be ready in time for the end of November when the first orders start coming in for Christmas. During the busy spring it is nice to be able to fill our tables with our own product grown on site. We are always stocking our tables throughout the day with our annuals in spring to ensure top quality and selection.

The daily operations at the back part of our garden centre are very interesting and busy and accessible to our customers to check out. We offer free tours to schools and daycares to show the kids around and give them a sense of how things are grown, from seed to seedling to finished product.
